Overview

The Cometech QC-548D2 Mask Elastic Band Tensile Tester is built for production and QC environments that need quick setup, stable crosshead control, and clear test reporting for elastic materials and components used in medical masks.

It can be operated in stand‑alone mode via a TFT touch interface and can also run PC-based testing and reporting through Cometech’s D2 software on Windows.

Typical test coverage includes tensile, compression, bending, and peeling tests (depending on grips/fixtures), making it suitable for elastic band checks as well as broader lab mechanical testing tasks.

Referenced test standards (examples shown by Cometech): ASTM D790 / ISO 178 (bending), ASTM D882 (film tensile), ASTM D638 (plastic tensile), ASTM D412 (rubber tensile), ASTM D1000 / ASTM D3330 (tape peeling).

Features & Functions

  • Stand‑alone operation via a TFT touchscreen; optional micro‑printer output for fast result printouts (configuration dependent).
  • Digitized speed setting with one‑touch test start for quicker routine QC workflows.
  • Motor control + computing system that automatically adjusts crosshead speed during movement to improve control accuracy.
  • Built‑in protection functions (over‑travel, overload, and time limit), plus breakpoint stop and automatic return.
  • Stores up to 50 results and supports exporting raw data via USB.
  • Loadcell automatic reading; calibration can be performed without installing the loadcell on the machine (as stated by Cometech).

Configuration & Options

  • Optional extensometer for real‑time specimen elongation measurement; gauge length adjustable to match standards/sample dimensions.
  • Short extensometer option for lower‑elongation materials; Cometech states resolution of 0.0005 mm (0.5 μm) and that it can remain attached through the tensile test.
  • Accessory for measuring small deformations over short distances by mounting directly on fixtures to reduce the effect of machine/frame displacement (useful with compression platens and bending fixtures).
  • Optional compact printer for immediate test summaries in stand‑alone mode (maximum force/displacement, etc.).

Applications & Case Studies

  • Mask ear loop / elastic band tensile testing for incoming inspection, in‑process control, and final QC.
  • Rubber tensile testing (ASTM D412) and plastic tensile testing (ASTM D638) when equipped with appropriate grips and specimen setup.
  • Film tensile testing (ASTM D882) and tape peel testing (ASTM D1000 / ASTM D3330) for packaging and adhesive-related materials.
  • Bending tests per ASTM D790 / ISO 178 using the appropriate fixture.

Support & Compatibility

  • PC software: Cometech D2 software supports Windows 7 or above and can run tensile, compression, bending, peeling tests (fixture dependent).
  • Connectivity: Two‑way TCP/IP control with a computer; USB export supported.
  • Software features include multi-language UI and configurable graph axes (force, elongation, displacement, time, stress, strain, etc.).
