The GBPI N600P is a state-of-the-art laboratory paper air permeability tester engineered to determine the air permeance, gaseous flow resistance, and surface porosity of specialty papers, paperboards, kraft packaging liners, cement sack papers, cigarette papers, and industrial filter sheets. Designed in strict conformity with premier international pulp and paper standards including ISO 5636-3 (paper and board — determination of air permeance — Bendtsen method), ISO 5636-5 (Gurley method), GB/T 458, and TAPPI T460, this computerized instrument replaces traditional mercury and oil-based manometers with high-stability electronic pressure sensors.

In paper manufacturing and converting, air permeability is a decisive structural parameter that governs ink absorption in gravure and flexographic printing, adhesive penetration in corrugated lamination, and de-aeration efficiency during high-speed automated packaging filling (such as cement and flour valve bags). If paper porosity is overly dense, filling bags can balloon and burst; conversely, if porosity is too porous, fine particulate powders sift through the fibrous matrix. Operating as a computerized paper air permeability tester, the GBPI N600P accurately quantifies air passage through a defined specimen area under an automated, highly stable pressure gradient.

Dual Analytical Principles: Bendtsen & Gurley Integration

The instrument seamlessly accommodates both major international testing philosophies: the Bendtsen constant-pressure air flow method (reporting air permeance in μm/(Pa·s) or flow rate in mL/min) and the Gurley transit time method (measuring the seconds required for 100 mL of air to permeate the sample). A closed-loop electronic regulator maintains differential pressure with 0.001 kPa precision, eliminating pneumatic oscillation.

Interchangeable Precision Test Orifices

To support diverse paper grades ranging from dense glassine and release liners to highly porous filter media, the N600P features interchangeable pneumatic clamping heads matching standard 6.42 cm² (Gurley standard) and 10.0 cm² (Bendtsen standard) effective test areas with airtight peripheral sealing.

Equipped with a vivid touchscreen display, automated specimen clamping, and instantaneous unit conversion, the N600P delivers reliable quality control essential for paper mills, packaging converters, and commercial printing houses.
