The GBPI GB-PFE is a high-precision, automated mask particle filtration efficiency tester engineered to determine the particulate filtration efficiency (PFE) and respiratory flow resistance of surgical masks, medical face coverings, filtering half-masks (such as N95, FFP2, FFP3, and KN95 respirators), and non-woven filter media. Built in strict conformity with premier international standards including NIOSH 42 CFR Part 84, EN 149, EN 143, and GB 2626, this test system provides certified laboratories and mask manufacturers with definitive filtration qualification data.

Respiratory protective equipment serves as the primary barrier preventing the inhalation of hazardous sub-micron aerosols, airborne pathogens, and industrial dusts. The filtration capability of meltblown electret non-woven fabrics depends on mechanical interception, inertial impaction, diffusion, and electrostatic attraction. Operating as a dual-challenge mask particle filtration efficiency tester, the GBPI GB-PFE incorporates two independent aerosol generation systems: a collision atomizer generating neutral-charge sodium chloride (NaCl) solid salt aerosols for particulate classification, and an oil aerosol generator delivering heated paraffin oil (or DOP) liquid droplets for oil-resistant respirator certification.

Dual Aerosol Generators & Precision Photometers

The instrument features high-sensitivity forward light-scattering laser photometers upstream and downstream of the test specimen. By continuously measuring aerosol mass concentrations before and after passage through the filter medium at flow rates adjustable between 10 and 100 L/min, the system calculates filtration efficiency with a resolution of 0.001% across a broad concentration spectrum (0.001 to 200 mg/m³).

Simultaneous Inhalation Resistance Evaluation

Simultaneously with filtration efficiency quantification, integrated electronic differential pressure transducers measure breathing resistance across the filter medium up to 1000 Pa with ±2% accuracy. This dual-parameter characterization ensures respirators achieve the optimal balance between high particle retention and comfortable breathability.

Equipped with pneumatic specimen clamping fixtures, an intuitive touchscreen controller, and automated test sequence sequencing, the GB-PFE delivers rapid, repeatable quality assurance for PPE production lines.
