Cometech QC-317A Water Penetration Tester | Hydrostatic Head (AATCC 127 / ISO 811 / JIS L1092)

  • Hydrostatic head / water penetration tester for waterproof fabrics and tarpaulins.
  • Applies water pressure at a constant rate; the pressure at first water-drop penetration indicates hydrostatic pressure resistance.
  • Three common methods supported: rising-water-pressure method, fixed-pressure (time-to-leak) method, and leakage-volume method.
  • Pneumatic clamping with adjustable clamping pressure for better repeatability on coated fabrics.
  • Pressure height range up to 1800 mmH2O with adjustable pressurization speed.

Overview

Cometech QC-317A Water Penetration Tester evaluates the hydrostatic pressure resistance of waterproof textiles (such as tarpaulin) by applying water pressure at a constant rate to the specimen. When water drops penetrate through the fabric, the pressure at that moment is recorded as the hydrostatic pressure characteristic of the material. The tester supports multiple evaluation methods so labs can match different standards or internal QC procedures.

Technical Specifications

Standards

  • AATCC 127
  • JIS L1092
  • ISO 811

Test methods

  • Hydrostatic pressure method: raise water level at a constant rate and record pressure when three leakage points appear.
  • Certain (fixed) pressure method: raise to a specified height, hold, and record the time until three leakage points appear.
  • Leakage volume method: raise to a specified height, hold, then measure leaked water volume (ml) in a specified time.

Core specifications

Model QC-317A
Specimen size 8 in × 8 in (approx. 20 × 20 cm)
Pressurization area diameter 4.5 in (approx. 114 mm)
Clamping method Pneumatic clamping with adjustable clamping pressure
Water pressure height range 0 – 1800 mmH2O (with scale marking)
Pressurization speed 5 – 30 mmH2O/sec (adjustable)

Safety & repeatability features

  • Upper and lower limit settings to protect the machine.
  • Lower limit is the water-level zero point; the machine must return to the lower limit before starting the next test to maintain accuracy.

Support materials

  • Test video, teaching material, SOP, and test case (availability depends on configuration and region).
