The GBPI GBD-L is a high-precision free-falling falling dart impact tester engineered to determine the mechanical impact failure resistance, puncture toughness, and energy absorption properties of plastic films, composite laminates, sheets, and heavy-duty packaging webs. Manufactured in strict conformity with premier international packaging standards including ASTM D1709 (standard test methods for impact resistance of plastic film by the free-falling dart method), ISO 7765-1, JIS K7124, and GB/T 9639, this instrument serves as the benchmark quality control apparatus for blown film extrusion and industrial pouch conversion.

During transportation, shipping drop shocks, and automated high-speed bagging operations, flexible packages undergo abrupt localized mechanical impacts. Inadequate film impact strength causes catastrophic bag ruptures, puncture pinholes, and product leakage. Operating as a standardized falling dart impact tester, the GBD-L clamps a circular test specimen tautly within an annular pneumatic ring and releases a hemispherical-headed missile from a specified height onto the specimen center. Utilizing the standardized staircase testing technique, the system systematically alters dart loading mass based on individual strike outcomes to accurately derive the 50% impact failure mass.

Dual Method A & B Capabilities

The testing column accommodates both standardized testing methodologies seamlessly. Method A employs a 38.1 mm diameter hemispherical phenolic or composite dart dropped from a height of 0.66 meters for lightweight polyethylene and polypropylene films. Method B utilizes a 50.8 mm diameter stainless steel dart head released from a height of 1.50 meters, accommodating tough agricultural geomembranes, barrier laminates, and heavy-duty shipping sacks.

Pneumatic Clamping & Electromagnetic Release

To ensure flawless test reproducibility, the GBD-L features pneumatic clamping jaws controlled via an ergonomic foot pedal, delivering uniform circumferential grip without surface slippage or edge stress concentrations. An electro-magnetic release chuck holds the dart securely without mechanical friction, guaranteeing a clean, vertical trajectory upon triggering.

Widely adopted by petrochemical polyolefin resin manufacturers, flexible packaging converters, agricultural film suppliers, and third-party testing laboratories, the GBD-L delivers reliable, objective puncture resistance verification for demanding packaging applications.

Key Performance Features of the GBPI GBD-L

  • Dual Standard Method A & B Flexibility: Easily converts between Method A (0.66 m drop height) and Method B (1.50 m drop height) using quick-mount modular guide columns and matched dart assemblies.
  • Zero-Friction Electromagnetic Release: Eliminates mechanical trigger drag and tilt, ensuring true free-fall trajectory and repeatable perpendicular dart impacts on the specimen center.
  • Uniform Pneumatic Annular Clamping: Heavy-duty pneumatic cylinder clamping ring applies constant circumferential gripping force, preventing sample creasing, distortion, or edge slippage.
  • Ergonomic Foot-Pedal Control: Hands-free sample clamping operation allows the operator to accurately align and tension thin, delicate film samples prior to test execution.
  • Automated Statistical Analysis: On-board digital processing unit automatically tracks pass/fail tallies, calculates delta mass increments, and computes 50% failure energy (F50) with standard deviation.
  • Durable Aluminum Alloy Structural Column: Precision-extruded structural alloy tower with etched height graduation scales provides rigid alignment and resistance to laboratory wear.
