Overview

Cometech QC-636 Drop Weight Impact Tester is designed for cushioning and protective material testing using the free-fall drop weight method.
The 5 kg striker (including the impact head) is lifted electrically to a set height; at standard height of 100 cm it delivers approximately 50 J of impact energy vertically onto the specimen.
The machine then reads the residual energy after the specimen absorbs impact, which gives a direct measure of the material's cushioning performance.
It conforms to BS EN 1621-1:2012 (motorcycle protective armor — limbs) and BS EN 1621-2:2014 (motorcycle protective armor — back) standards.

Method A (EN 1621-1) vs Method B (EN 1621-2)

  • Method A striker: Flat, polished face 40×80 mm; round edges r=5 mm. Anvil: Hemispherical polished steel, radius 50 mm, height 180 mm.
  • Method B bar impactor: Hemispherical face 60°, radius 12.5 mm, height 30.8 mm. Anvil: Polished steel, radius 150 mm, height ~190 mm.
  • Both impact method sets (striker + anvil) are included; they can be interchanged on the same machine frame.
